As Christmas Day draws closer and as we approach the time of Christ’s birth, it’s an important season to reflect…
My home is decked out in Christmas decor, and many Christmas trees decorate it, from the fancy and formal tree in the living room to the fun and eclectic tree in the family room. I also have numerous smaller Christmas trees throughout the house—from a bird tree to an angel tree and more. The trees make the home and the holidays so festive.
In addition, I’ve been thoughtfully shopping and wrapping gifts for friends and family members in anticipation of Christmas Day. The formal tree will house the adult family gifts, while the whimsical tree will stage the gifts for my grandchildren. Presents already line the trees.
I can’t wait for Christmas Day to gather by the trees and exchange presents. I’m anticipating the glee, delight, and joy that will fill my loved ones' faces as they open their gifts with great expectation.
And as we await Christmas Day and the birth of Christ anew, we too can await with great joy and anticipation. “For unto us a Child is born and a Savior is given… For God so loved that He gave His only begotten Son…”
Christmas is about God giving us the greatest gift of all: His Son!
Jesus is our gift of salvation. Trees are significant to the Savior. He was lovingly wrapped in swaddling clothes and laid in a manger. The wooden crib where the Son of God was laid represented that He came to be our grain of life and the feeding trough for all mankind. The wood also foreshadowed the tree or the cross our Savior would one day bear to pay the price of sin and give us new life.
Christmas trees are symbols of what Christ has done for us—He is the gift of life itself.
Beloved:
I love giving gifts just as much as you do. Things you see in life and My creation mirror My nature. This holiday, see Christmas trees in a new light of understanding as you celebrate the birth of My Son. He has come to give you life and that abundantly. But like any gift, you must receive it!
“And this will be a sign for you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” (Luke 2:12)
“He bore our sins in His body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness...” (1 Peter 2: 24)
“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)
