As spring rolls around, every year I start the process of spring cleaning.
I’ve noticed my cabinets and drawers have gotten cluttered and disorganized and that they need my attention again. There are items in the cabinet and refrigerator that have expired that I need to discard.
My closets and drawers need a deep dive to purge clothing I no longer wear or can fit into. And I wonder why I’m hanging onto things I don’t need or use. Or some items, like some of my pajamas, have seen better days and need to be thrown away altogether.
In the spring, I like to do a deeper dive into cleaning the windows or woodwork around the house that just gets lightly dusted throughout the year. Once cleaned, the windows give me a clearer vision of the outside world.
Soon I want to tackle the crystal or dishes on display that need a good washing, so they’re ready for use for the next special occasion.

Just like spring cleaning, my heart needs spring cleaning as well. What have I been neglecting that needs attention? God’s Word will help wash and renew my heart. And like expired food items, what should I just discard altogether, like a bad habit or bad relationship that might be making me sick instead of bringing life? What about you?
What has clouded your vision? Are you holding on to pain, hurt, or bitterness? Let God wash the windows of your soul so you can see clearly again. In this time of Lent and as we examine our hearts, are there activities or pursuits that need to be discarded or eliminated from your life? Maybe these things fit your life or lifestyle in the past, but not in this current season of life. Or maybe you’ve gotten too busy and allowed your heart to be cluttered with busyness and excess and God is calling you back to simplicity.
Are you like me? What spring cleaning do you need to do in your life and your heart? Let the cleaning begin…

Beloved:
As you seek Me, let Me help you establish more order again or refresh your life. Let Me help you renew your heart and soul. Spring cleaning is beneficial for you all the way around. Let’s do this together!
“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation. And uphold me by Your generous Spirit.” (Psalm 51:10-12)
"So that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the Word." (Ephesians 5:26)
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 15:13)
