I sunk my teeth into the fuzzy peach, and juice dripped down my chin as my tastebuds exploded with the sweet flavor.
“Ah, nothing like a perfect Georgia peach in the heat of the summer,” I mused.
The flavor brought back fond memories. As a child, in the summer my father would take us driving in the country in search of local peach stands in Oklahoma. Once discovered, we’d leave loaded with buckets of ripening peaches as we’d head home with a mission on Dad’s mind. My family loved enjoying fresh peaches with cream and Mom’s freshly baked peach pies. But Dad’s favorite was homemade peach ice cream. He would drag out the old-fashioned ice cream machine and we would all take turns cranking the handle of the manual machine. It was hard work, but we soon enjoyed the fruit of our labors.
However, as much as I loved the summer peaches in Oklahoma growing up, there’s nothing like a Georgia peach.
Yearly, my husband orders peaches from a small farm bordering Georgia for us to enjoy. He also has boxes sent to family members or friends to savor this sweet succulent fruit. There’s no other peach like the McLeod Farm peaches I have ever tasted in all my years. They are truly the best.
We were first introduced to these peaches by a close friend who loved to share his findings with others. And after his passing, we carried on the tradition.
There are some sweet peaches to be found in other states like Arkansas and Oklahoma to be sure, but there’s nothing like these Georgia peaches. Is it the climate, the soil, the perfect blend of heat and humidity, or the particular breed of trees? I’m not sure what their secret is to producing the best summer peaches. But the best they are!
And once you’ve tasted a Mac’s summer Georgia peach, all the rest pale in comparison. Sweet peaches remind me of God. “Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good!”
Like the best sweet summer peaches, God wants us to taste His goodness. It starts with relationship and spending time with the Creator of the universe. He longs to impart His choicest of fruit into our hearts and lives. He doesn’t give us mass-produced, chemically induced, or tasteless fruit. But rather He gives us the finest and pure fruit of His Word. And like a sweet peach dripping with juice and awakening our senses, He wants to awaken our hearts to His delights! Draw near and taste God’s goodness for yourself like a sweet summer peach.
Beloved:
The things in this life, like a sweet peach, reflect the goodness of My heart and intentions towards you. I long to bless your life with every good thing and every perfect gift. Come and see. Come and taste of My goodness towards you!
“Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good.” (Psalm 34:8)
“How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth.” (Psalm 119:103)
“If indeed, you have tasted that the Lord is good.” (1 Peter 2:3)
